During his working visit to Rome, High Inspector of Justice Mr. Artur Metani had a meeting with the President of the Constitutional Court of Italy, Mrs. Silvana Sciarra and its members, Mrs. Maria Rosaria San Giorgio and Mr. Nicolo Zanon.
The High Inspector of Justice informed them about the work of his institution as well as the Albania’s efforts to implement the reform in justice based on the complete restructuring of its institutions. This is part of the challenge to consolidate the rule of law especially in the important stage that our country has entered, the process of joining the EU, with the newly started negotiations with the European Commission, precisely with chapter 23, on the judiciary and fundamental rights.
“I strongly believe that not only does the process of joining the EU go through a monitoring process by the European institutions, but it must also be accompanied especially by an efficient process of cooperation, as an extraordinary opportunity for our institutions to adapt to the values on which the EU is established. Italy is Albania’s natural partner on its way to the EU and this cooperation has had its visible results, for example, the HIJ cooperation with the General Inspectorate of the Italian Ministry of Justice 8 months ago, formalized with an agreement that is brought to life with concrete activities,” said Mr. Metani.
The President of the Constitutional Court Mrs. Silvana Sciarra expressed her appreciation for the cooperation of the HIJ with the Italian counterparts and the engagement of Albania in the European Union membership negotiations.
